Foggy Morning at Monson Lake State Park

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were able to get away by ourselves for a weekend away. It was a chance for us to spend some time as Steve & Becky, and not Mom and Dad. It was a great weekend but also a bit weird. Prior to this, it had been a few years since we did this and this time we were able to leave our children home by themselves, which was totally weird. It was hard for us to fathom that our kids were now old enough. Our plan, initially, was to camp for the weekend so that we could see Monson Lake State Park, which isn’t very big at all, and then take … Read MoreFoggy Morning at Monson Lake State Park

Foggy Morning at Many Point Scout Camp, Ponsford, MN

Last week, I had the opportunity to go to Scout camp with Alanzo’s scout troop. We had so much fun last year so we were looking forward to this year. Unfortunately, the first couple of days were very rainy. So rainy, in fact, that we had a minor river running through our campsite from the main road until our scoutmaster was able to divert it away from our campsite. Two of our tents flooded. Once the rain stopped, our spirits lifted – the adults at least. The rain didn’t dampen the spirts of the boys and they enjoyed themselves nonetheless. I took very little pictures this year. Much of what the boys did was similar to last year – cooking, … Read MoreFoggy Morning at Many Point Scout Camp, Ponsford, MN

Isa & the Ocean (2013)

Back in 2013, we visited the west coast again so that we could lay Grandpa Ladd to rest in Newport, Oregon. Afterwards, we drove north to Lincoln City before heading back to Gervais. We had a chance to chill out on the beach, play some frisbee, and frolic in the water. I managed to snag a picture of my daughter, Isa, as she played…

Clyde’s Drive-In, Sault Ste. Marie, Mi. (2010)

I totally forgot about this picture. It was taken in 2010 with my friend’s Nikon D90, which I was in love with at the time. I really wanted an upgrade to my D40 and I had a lot of fun with his camera. My mom, sister, son and I had gone to the U.P. to visit my grandmother, as she was very old and in a nursing home. It was an opportunity for Alanzo to meet his great-grandmother and it gave me a chance to see her one last time. It was good to get back to the area. I’d spent half of my life up there and I didn’t want to leave. If you find yourself in the area, … Read MoreClyde’s Drive-In, Sault Ste. Marie, Mi. (2010)

Sunsets at Many Point Scout Camp, Ponsford, MN.

Last year, Alanzo had the opportunity to go to Scout Camp for the first time and I was able to accompany him as an adult leader so I got to share the week with him. I didn’t grow up in scouts so it was a new experience for me. I was very proud of my son. I think both he, and I, grew a lot during our week up there. I brought my camera up mainly for the purpose of taking pictures of him and the other boys and documenting the week up there. The only time that I actually made for myself to photograph anything would be at night as the sun set over a couple of days. I … Read MoreSunsets at Many Point Scout Camp, Ponsford, MN.

View from the Space Needle (2014)

One of my bucket list items ever since my first trip there in 2011 and I couldn’t have asked for a better night if I’d prayed for one. On our first night in Seattle, after we’d arrived and got settled in our hotel, we took in some of the sights (of course). There were a few bucket list items that I’d wanted to photograph and visit – the market, the original Starbucks, and finally, the Space Needle. The market was all but closed on the the Sunday we’d arrived but luckily, Starbucks was open and I’m glad that we went Sunday night as the lines were insane the next morning. The Space Needle was the end of our first day … Read MoreView from the Space Needle (2014)
