Winter Leaves (2013)

Quarry Park, Waite Park, MN Pictures taken with my D7000 and my then newly-acquired 50mm 1.4 lens. I hadn’t had any experience with a prime lens and was out putzing with it to see what kind of bokeh I could get with it. I’ll admit – I’d never really wanted a prime lens before. My friend, Jacob, had one and encouraged me to pick one up but I was lazy and enjoyed the comfort of being able to zoom in and out with my cheap kit lenses. It wasn’t until I’d actually picked one up, inexpensively, and really putzed with it that I’d realized how silly I was being. Having the lenses has taught me quite a bit, especially about … Read MoreWinter Leaves (2013)

Summer Sunset (2012)

One of the few HDR images that I’ve kept over the years. For those unaware, HDR is a technique that combines several shots of the same image, each taken with a different exposure. The purpose of the technique is to try and produce an image that captures the full range of light that your eyes can see that camera cannot produce in a single shot. It’s a great technique when applied properly. I, like so many others “back in the day”, ended up producing some very fake-looking, cartoon-like images. Overall, the HDR thing was a fad. The shots that I’ve kept over the years that I still enjoy would be the churches I’ve shot, and few of the landscape shots … Read MoreSummer Sunset (2012)

Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary

St. James Cathedral, Seattle, Washington (July 2014) During our family trip to Oregon/Washington in 2014 we managed to spend a couple of days putzing around Seattle, mainly around the market area. Overall it was a great day and contributed to more than 400 photos. I had spent time trying to put together a photo bucket list before we went out there and an old church is something that I really wanted to photograph. Old churches, in general, have become something of a general bucket list item for me and I generally try and scope them out when I’m out and about. Shooting on this day, in particular, did not go as I had planned. My allergies were acting up which, … Read MoreShrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Walk on the Beach, Cannon Beach, Oregon (2014)

In 2014, we took the kids and my sister, Jerrielynn, to see my wife’s family.  Unlike the previous two vacations we took out there, I had actually gone out with a photography game plan and I had my D7000 with me.  All of my photography, save for one excursion, was confined to the locations that we had planned on visiting while we were out there.  Cannon Beach was my photography bucket list item. I know that countless photographers have taken pictures here but it was still someplace I wanted to visit.  I wasn’t really concerned with capturing anything that others haven’t already had the chance to do before and I’m sure that I could find much better quality images on … Read MoreWalk on the Beach, Cannon Beach, Oregon (2014)
